Essential Probiotics Plus is a long-standing favorite for treating undesirable microorganisms invade and multiply in the bowel. It includes Four Probiotic Strains: Bifidobacterium lactis blended with Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and Bifidobacterium bifidum. Bifidobacterium lactis is an important colonizing microorganism that produces large amounts of formate which favors beneficial microbiota. It has profound effects on the immune system enhancing white blood cell activities as well as increasing numbers of total, helper, and activated T cells. It has activity against rotavirus, a significant cause of diarrhea in infants and young children and has been found to reduce the incidence of diarrhea in child daycare centers.

The probiotic species in Essential Probiotics Plus synergistically produce butyrate, acetate, lactate, and formate, lowering the pH of intestinal contents and inhibiting the growth of undesirable bacteria and yeast. Essential Probiotics Plus probiotics produce B vitamins and enhance nutrient and mineral absorption. Together they stimulate gastrointestinal and systemic immune system function and provide support for people with occasional diarrhea

• Acid-Stable Delivery System: Probiotics are living microorganisms that need to be protected from heat, humidity, and stomach acid in order to provide beneficial effects. To help protect the fragile organisms from the harsh, acidic environment of the stomach, a vegetable fatty acid lipid layer is used to encase and protect the beneficial bacteria from destruction by stomach acid. This helps ensure that adequate amounts of live bacterium reach the small intestinal environment where they are needed.

• Does Not Require Refrigeration: Typical probiotic formulations require refrigeration to preserve the viability of the microorganisms. The special fatty acid coating used not only protects them from destruction by stomach acid, it also increases shelf-life at normal room temperature (up to approximately 75°F) so that refrigeration is not necessary. Refrigeration will help maintain the maximum potency of probiotic microorganisms for a longer period of time but is not required.
